Who
Thank you for taking a short moment to look into who I am as a candidate for the Office of Grafton County Sheriff.
My name is Todd Matthew Eck and I was born in 1969 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I grew up in a small blue-collar town. I was surrounded by fertile farming valleys, woodlands, streams and rivers, and a few factories. My mother was a nurse and my father was a foreman at a paper mill. I am the youngest of two sons.
I attended public school and graduated in 1987. My parents made sure that I attended church regularly. I followed my older brother into the Boy Scouts of America where I made friends that I still have to this day. I kept active in sports being a member of the High School cross country running team and the track and field team. It was during those years, and through those experiences that I developed my faith in God, and a sense of American patriotism. I also learned the value of being part of a community and to serve within it. A passion for seeking the truth and to abide in it was firmly established. I learned what it means to be a team player, and discovered what true friendship really is.
After graduating High School I worked hard to earn and save enough money to go to college. I earned an Associate’s Degree in Police Science in 1990 from the Harrisburg Area Community College.
In late 1991, I met the woman who would become my wife. Together we set out to achieve our goals in support of one another. In 1994 I married my beautiful bride, Janine. She has been my most steadfast supporter, and the most loving companion I could ever have.
In 1996, our careers brought us to New Hampshire, the State we have proudly called our home ever since. I was happy to find employment as a police officer in the Town of Haverhill in 1997.

In March of 2003, my career took me to the Grafton County Sheriff’s Department. My experience working in our justice system continued to grow. As a Deputy I conducted prisoner transports around the State. I participated in the extradition of criminals from other States back to NH. I tracked down fugitives and learned about our civil legal process. I also continued to perform all of the same duties that I did as a local police officer.
While at the Sheriff’s Department I was honored to perform collateral duties as a S.W.A.T. Operator in the Central NH Special Operations Unit.

During my time at the Sheriff’s Office, my wife and I were blessed with the births of our son Samuel and our daughter Addison. They have been a source of inspiration in the career decisions I have made since their arrival.
In September of 2010, I transferred from the Sheriff’s Office to the Department of Corrections taking the position of Training Sergeant. There I was in charge of the development, implementation, and maintenance of all training and training records. I also served in the role of a supervisor.

In 2017, I retired from full-time law enforcement to pursue other interests. I continued to work as a part-time police officer for the towns of Haverhill, Piermont, Wentworth, Bath, and Lisbon. I also returned to the Sheriff’s Office as a part-time Special Deputy. For the Lisbon Police Department, I served as a supervisor and as a prosecutor with the rank of Lieutenant.
In 2021, the Town of Bath hired me as their Chief of Police. I have worked hard to provide the best quality police services possible while staying within the available allocated resources, and while earning much community support. I am confident that the town’s police department will be set up for continued success when the day comes that I must leave.

Now that there is an opening for the position of Sheriff, I have been asked by colleagues within the law enforcement community to run for this office. My peers have told me that I have the leadership qualities, credibility with members of other agencies, and the strength of character to be successful in this role. I have no axes to grind with anyone and seek this office out of a desire to serve our community. I have the full support of my family. I have the discipline and integrity to fulfill the duties incumbent upon the Grafton County Sheriff. I have never been a politician. I have never run for office before. After serious contemplation, I concluded that the right thing for me to do is seek the Office of Sheriff. I do so out of a sincere sense of obligation and commitment to our community.
Now that you know a little bit about who I am, I thank you for your consideration and humbly ask for your vote this November.
Sincerely,
Todd Matthew Eck
